Leeds Beckett University (LBU), formerly known as Leeds Metropolitan University (LMU) and before that as Leeds Polytechnic, is a public university in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. It has campuses in the city center and Headingley.

The university’s origins can be traced to 1824, with the foundation of the Leeds Mechanics Institute. Leeds Polytechnic was formed in 1970 and was part of the Leeds Local Education Authority until it became an independent Higher Education Corporation on 1 April 1989. In 1992, the institution gained university status. The current name was adopted in September 2014. Leeds Beckett University transforms the lives and prospects of thousands of individuals and organisations across the city and beyond. This modern, professional university has 24,000 students across two campuses, based in the city centre and in the nearby suburb of Headingley. Students can access great teaching and the latest thinking from research on big issues in society from cybercrime to dementia, on programmes that meet the needs of employers and provide the skills the city region needs.

Leeds Beckett’s online system, MyHub, helps students to search for a range of jobs relevant to their course and sends job alerts direct to their inbox. Specially trained staff provide help and support to students with a disability, long-term physical or mental health condition, or a specific learning difference (including dyslexia).
